If No One’s Talked to You About This – It’s Time to Ask Why Not
A Personal Story
After I was diagnosed, my medical team didn’t talk to me about my lifestyle.
A few decades ago, I was standing in front of a classroom full of cosmetology students, scissors in hand and I could barely hold my arms up long enough to demonstrate a haircut.
I had always been active enough and my work demanded that I be on my feet all day. But slowly, I began to feel like my body was falling apart. My quads burned just walking up the stairs. I was too exhausted to walk any distance with my dogs and I started canceling plans so I could stay home and rest.
When I finally went to the doctor, I was sure the lab work would reveal something serious. But the results came back normal and with enough pushing, I was finally referred to a specialist.
That’s when I received a report that would change the trajectory of my life.
It read: “Janice is lazy and just needs to exercise.”
I wasn’t lazy. I was physically exhausted and wanted my life back.
After I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, my medical team never probed into why I was a chronically fatigued. No one asked about my lifestyle, what I was eating, how I was sleeping, or if there was any major stress in my life over the past few years that could possibly be at the root of the fatigue. I got no help, and this left me on my own to figure things out.
If No One’s Talked to You About This – It’s Time to Ask Why Not
Something has been missing from the conversation.
Here’s the thing…despite their education and degrees…many medical professionals are not trained to look at the root cause.
Luckily, I refused to accept that I would spend the rest of my life too exhausted to work and enjoy my life.
That’s when I started asking better questions, and that’s when I got answers and everything changed.
Diagnosed with a Health Condition? Has Anyone Talked to You About Your Lifestyle?
It’s time to ask: Why not?
Because here’s what we now know with certainty:
Up to 95% of chronic conditions are driven by lifestyle – not genetics like we’ve been led to believe.
That means your body isn’t broken.
It’s speaking to you…reacting to your environment, your food, and your stress load.
And the truth is…something has been missing from those we trust with our health.
Lifestyle-Driven Conditions: A Hidden Root Cause
Here are some of the most common chronic conditions where lifestyle plays a major (and often underestimated) role:
Metabolic & Hormonal
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Insulin resistance / Prediabetes
- Obesity
- PCOS
- Hypothyroidism / Hashimoto’s
- Estrogen dominance
- Menopausal symptoms / Hormonal imbalances
- Infertility (related to PCOS, thyroid, insulin)
- Painful or irregular periods
- Adrenal fatigue
- Metabolic syndrome
Cardiovascular
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Coronary artery disease
- Stroke
Digestive & Gut Health
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- GERD / Acid reflux
- Constipation or chronic diarrhea
- SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
- Leaky gut / Intestinal permeability
- Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis)
Inflammatory & Autoimmune
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Psoriasis
- Multiple sclerosis
- Lupus
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Endometriosis
Mental & Neurological
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Brain fog
- Insomnia
- Alzheimer’s / Dementia and other cognitive decline
Respiratory & Immune
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Chronic sinusitis
- Frequent colds or infections
It’s Not Just the Diagnosis – It’s the Missing Conversation
Far too often, women are prescribed medications for symptoms like:
- Weight gain
- Brain fog
- Low mood
- Hot flashes
- Poor sleep
- Anxiety or exhaustion
But no one asks:
- “What are you eating?”
- “How’s your stress?”
- “Are you sleeping well?”
- “How do your hormones look?”
- “What’s else is going on in your life right no?“
What We’re Eating Is Working Against Us
Let’s be real – today’s food supply is stacked against us:
- Ultra-processed convenience foods
- Refined carbs and hidden sugars
- Inflammatory oils and chemical additives
- Endocrine disruptors that mimic hormones
These aren’t just dietary bad guys, they directly impact your hormone balance – from estrogen and thyroid function to insulin sensitivity and cortisol levels.
These are the very hormones that control:
- Energy
- Weight
- Mood
- Sleep
- Motivation
- Cravings
- Inflammation
And yet, when the symptoms show up, the most common answer is “Here’s a pill.”
A Pill Doesn’t Fix the Problem. It Masks It.
Medications have their place. They can be necessary and even lifesaving. But they are not a root-cause solution and by the time women get to their 50’s or 60’s, the amount of pills they’re taking increases. Today, most people (from children to the elderly) are on at least one medication.
Medications do not:
- Resolve high blood pressure
- Resolve high cholesterol
- Rebalance hormones
- Reverse diabetes
- Detox your liver
- Repair your gut microbiome
- Repair your leaky gut
- Teach you how to eat for the stage of life you’re in
These are nothing more than a band-aid.
So ask yourself:
- Has anyone looked at how your body systems are functioning?
- Has anyone investigated why you have the symptoms you do?
- Has anyone shown you how to support estrogen detox or reduce cortisol overload?
- Has anyone helped you understand how your food, sleep, and stress may be impacting your body more than your age ever could?
If the answer is no, it’s time to seek the help of someone who is trained to look at the root cause of your excess weight and your other health issues.
Because you deserve more than a handful of pills for symptom relief.
You deserve a solution that addresses your hormones, your lifestyle, and your future.
Real Healing Doesn’t Start in a Pharmacy
It starts with your plate, your nervous system, and the daily choices you make.
Healing is possible.
But only when we take into account the body as a whole.
