“Vacation Mode” Feels Good… Until It Doesn’t!

“I’m in vacation mode for two months. I’m not going to deprive myself of having fun.”

I hear this every summer. To be honest, I’ve said it myself.

After all, following a long cold winter and rainy spring, summer feels like the reward.

The weather’s beautiful, patios are calling, there’s wine on the deck, weekend getaways, ice cream with the grandkids, late nights and lazy mornings.

And why not?

You’ve earned the break – you’ve worked hard – you deserve to have fun.

However, here’s the reality…

What feels like aa two-month vacation often turns into regret by September.

What “Vacation Mode” Really Looks Like

That “I’m just going to enjoy myself” mindset can quietly shift into weeks of habits that don’t serve your health goals.

For example:

  • Two months of very little exercise, if any
  • Mindlessly grazing through the day without true hunger
  • Wine, snacks, and sweets becoming daily rituals
  • Dismissing how your body feels
  • Returning to old habits you thought you’d left behind

At first glance, these habits might seem harmless, but with time, they become normal.
Eventually, you’ve created a daily pattern that doesn’t align with how you want to feel.

September Always Comes

Like it or not, the season will change, and once it does, I hear the same things from women again and again:

  • “I feel bloated and sluggish.”
  • “I’ve gained even more weight over the summer, and it won’t come off.”
  • “My joints ache more than ever.”
  • “My sleep is off, and my energy is gone.”
  • “I can’t believe I let myself slide again.”

Beyond the physical, there’s a deeper frustration – one that comes from knowing you didn’t show up for yourself in the way you’d hoped.

Of course, none of this happens on purpose.
It’s a slow, subtle departure from your values and goals.

It’s Not About Perfection — It’s About Awareness

No, you don’t have to give up the joy of summer.
There’s no need to skip birthday cake or avoid gatherings just to stay on track.

That said, it is worth checking in with yourself.

Ask yourself how you want to feel when September arrives?

Maybe it’s light, focused, and energized and being able to say, “I feel good AND I had a great summer!

On the flip side, if you don’t pause now, it’s easy to slip into another cycle of “starting over.”

There’s Still Time to Choose Differently

Thankfully, you’re not stuck.
This doesn’t have to be another summer of spiraling downward.

Instead of staying in vacation mode, you can choose a different plan – one that lets you enjoy the season and care for yourself at the same time.

There’s no need to be rigid and there’s definitely no need to strive for perfection. Perfection doesn’t exist.

Rather, it’s about tuning in and choosing what supports the woman you want to be – not just after summer ends, but right now.

So…How Will You Feel When September Comes?

If you start now, you won’t need a complete overhaul come September.
And again, let go of the perfection…the all or nothing mindset.

Start small.
Check in with yourself often.
Choose what aligns with your goals.

You’re not living for the next meal or the next glass of wine.
You’re living for feeling good in your body – the kind feeling that lasts longer than the summer.

You deserve that.
Now.
